Measuring of positions and transmissioning by radio

There are applications in which it is helpful for the machine operator when the position value detected by a measuring system can be transmitted by radio to other machine components. Thus, for example, the radio transmission makes it possible to install a display device independently of the measuring system, at a location which can be easily seen by the machine user.

The battery-powered IZBox-600 measuring and transmission system from ELGO makes it possible to capture and transmit radio signals without the need for cabling.

A classic application example can be found in table shears. When using the IZBOX-600 measuring system, the operator can fix the position indicator IZ16-620 in a position that is best visible to him in order to read the angle. The display is without cable, as battery powered and receives the value by radio. Transmitter, magnetic ring and sensor are installed underneath the machine at the center of rotation of the stop. Position values can also be transmitted by radio to large displays in production. Further applications are in belt grinding machines, in which the height adjustment of the belt guide is transmitted by radio.

The measuring and transmission system IZBOX-600 consists of an external MS-250 magnetic sensor and an evaluation unit with integrated transmitter. The magnetic sensor is connected to the evaluation unit / transmitter via a drag-chain-compatible cable. For the measurement, a coded magnetic tape is glued along the distance to be measured, or a magnetic ring is attached under the sensor, which supplies the necessary positional information to the incremental sensor. For this purpose, the sensor is mounted in a contact-free and therefore absolutely wear-free manner parallel to the magnetic tape / ring. The external magnetic sensor is resistant to dust, dirt and water with its high protection class and can be easily integrated into existing or new designs thanks to its compact size.

The evaluation unit has extensive possibilities for parameterization and can thus be easily adapted to the application. The parameterization or system configuration is done via a side-accessible bar with DIP switches.
The following parameters can be set: RF network address, RF address, RF radio channel, RF transmission cycle, status LEDs active / inactive, transmission protocol, system resolution, counting direction, zeroing via ext. Input single / continuous and start of the calibration run.

No special tool is needed for assembly. Because the system is battery powered, no wiring or electrical connections are required. The battery life is one to three years depending on the battery type and the duty cycle.

The IZBOX-600 is equipped with an 868 MHz radio module (ISM band) for the transmission of the current actual value (display value). The device can be adjusted so that it transmits only when the sensor is moving, which has a positive effect on the battery life. The actual value can, for example, be visualized with the battery-operated ELGO display device IZ16E-620, which has a compatible radio interface for receiving the IZBOX data.

As an additional accessory an 868 MHz transceiver is available, which is exactly on the IZBOX-600. The transceiver is available as a separate box (55 x 51 x 28 mm) with RS232 interface or as a compact stick with USB 2.0 interface for connection to a computer or control unit.

An important feature of all IZBOX-600 and the 868 MHz transceivers available is the bidirectional data transmission with CRC checksum generation, with up to 5 repetitions of non-acknowledged data telegrams and the issuing of a reception acknowledgment. Under optimal conditions a range of up to 200 meters is possible.
