Shaft Information Systems - Programming of the safety parameters directly at the elevator installation

Together with safe sensor technology also a safe process is necessary which allows a simple and therefore safe installation process.

With the LIMAX33 CP, the Germany based company ELGO Electronic, pioneer of shaft positioning systems, has developed an absolutely-based, safe sensor system that is currently revolutionizing the elevator market. In addition to the safe absolute position, various safety-relevant functions are implemented which, in the event of a fault, switch off the elevator quickly and reliably.

Together with a safe sensor a safe installation process is necessary which allows a simple and therefore safe installation. As with a conventional overspeed governor you can see the speed it is manufactured for by taking a closer look onto the design. The electronic sensor always looks the same. So wrong parametrization of an electronic sensor can have a huge impact for the installation.

Therefore ELGO introduces a process which allows to program the safety parameters directly at the elevator installation. This helps in case of replacement or modernization to avoid the installation of a sensor with parameters not fitting to the elevator installation – so this mistake may be undetected until the next TUV tests are performed.

ELGO delivers native sensors without parametrization to its customers. The customer uses a special software from ELGO to produce the label with the safety parameters of this specific installation (see figure). This label shall be placed somewhere in the controller cabinet. During setup of the elevator installation the technician will then program the safety parameters into the sensor (e. g. via the controller).

After successfully programming the safety parameters the technician will type in the password from the label to activate the safety parameters (this process can be done only once at a sensors lifetime). After successfully programming the safety parameters the technician can proceed with the well-known teach process for the landings. This teach process can be repeated as often as necessary until the landings are successfully programmed. In case of replacing an existing sensor the safety parameters (which have once been proven by the TUV at setup of the elevator installation) are still remaining with the installation as the label is still inside the controller cabinet. The logistics becomes simpler.
